Building practical skills, strengthening successful everyday community functioning

Psychosocial Rehabilitation Services (PRS) help individuals who may be experiencing behavioral, emotional, or everyday functioning challenges develop practical skills for managing situations at home, at school, in the community, and in daily routines. PRS may be appropriate when an individual needs support with communication, emotional regulation, decision-making, relationships, or independent functioning. Services are individualized and may support eligible children, adolescents, adults, and families throughout South Carolina, including individuals in the Lowcountry.

How It Works

Services are individualized and may focus on areas such as:

  • Communication and social skills
  • Problem-solving
  • Decision-making
  • Coping skills
  • Anger management
  • Emotional regulation
  • Self-esteem and confidence
  • Independent living skills
  • Personal responsibility
  • Community integration
  • Healthy relationships
  • Following rules and expectations
  • Managing daily routines
  • Improving age-appropriate functioning

What to Expect

PRS focuses on practicing and strengthening practical skills that an individual can use in everyday situations. Support may take place in settings relevant to the individual’s needs, such as the home, school, community, office, or another appropriate setting. As needs and circumstances change, the areas of skill development addressed through services may also be adjusted.
